This one time at band camp...I was having one of those "the only way I'm every going to get to sleep is with a bullet" nights and flipping through 900 channels of nothing I found myself enthralled by an infomercial for Dermacia cosmetics. Makeup that stays flawless even in water?!? *squeal* I thought I had found the holy grail! So I placed my order and 7-10 days later I received what I thought was the makeup I had been waiting for all my life.
( here's where the sad music starts playing like on a very special episode of The Brady Bunch where Cindy finds out that there really is no Santa Claus)
I started this blog because I wanted o give honest reviews about products out there that I have actually tried. Although I wish I could say that I love everything, there are those products that are so disappointing they get the eye roll they deserve before they are thrown under the sink to live in shame.
OK so here's the poop...Is it really all that bad? I'll give it a meh.
First of all it looks so nice and creamy when it comes out of the bottle but good luck trying to smooth the foundation all over your face. I don't know if there is some sort of weird chemical reaction when it touches skin but as soon as you apply it to your face it turns in to what I can only describe as "putty". It is suggested that you first apply the face lotion that they provide but that too evaporates as soon as it comes in contact with skin. On the infomercial they show women with horrible skin conditions such as severe rosatia, scaring, acne etc...whose complexions became instantly flawless with the application of Dermacia. My skin is far from perfect, but it's not THAT bad and I was annoyed when I found that Dermacia couldn't even cover a tiny little blemish.
So I contacted customer service to tell them of my woes and they suggested that I try applying the product in LAYERS! Are you kidding me?
So, being the optimist, I tired it and it was like I had covered my face in cake icing. The feel was so heavy and uncomfortable I washed it off after 15 minutes.
Sorry Dermacia but you get the pout!
**EDIT** Oh yeah it really is waterproof, good luck trying to wash it off sucka' !
I got this great face scrub recipe from my friend's mom and I have tried it a few times and really liked the results. I was thinking of whipping up a batch tonight and so I thought I would also pass along the recipe for those girls who are brave enough to try some homemade beauty.
Olive Oil
Raw Sugar
Coffee Grounds
Vanilla Extract & Lavender Oil for scent
There really is no right and wrong measurements here. I usually scoop about a cup of raw sugar & about 1/4 cup of used coffee grounds and mix together in a small jar. Then add just enough olive oil to cover the sugar pour in a drop or two of vanilla extract & lavender oil (you can add more or less depending on the smell you like) put the lid on the jar and shake. The mixture should resemble a medium paste. You can add more olive oil as needed. I would only make a small amount because the mixture only lasts for about 3-4 days. Happy scrubbing!

OK so I just have to say I love this stuff! I don't know how I ever lived without it. I have chronic headaches & migraines and after having the "Tylenol is not candy" discussion with my doctor yet again, one day he suggested I try "Head On". I have seen a lot of skeptical reviews out there about this product stating that it's basically just "wax" or that there is "no scientific data to support..." blah blah blah. All I know is that is works and I don't care if it is made from the tears of orphan children, I love it!!! (ok that was mean) It doesn't always make the headache go completely away, but it makes it so my eyeball doesn't feel like it's going to shoot out of my head and that, as Martha Stewart would say, is a good thing :)

"One of our creamiest soaps, it's soft and delectable with the deep fruity and floral fragrance of olibanum and bergamot oils. We top it with dried apricots, dried currants and dried cranberries for luxurious soft exfoliation and rich nutrients. Sultana is a type of raisin and also means the wife of a Sultan; although this soap doesn't actually have any raisins, it does have a lot of other dried fruit, and it's rich enough to be the wife of a Sultan."
Yummy!

If you are pregnant or have children and you are my friend chances are you have received a gift from me from the fine folks at Baby Wit

I found this totally freakin' sweet lip gloss from Go Light My Lips the other day and I have to say... LOVES IT!
Is it the best lip gloss I've ever used? Nah, but who cares! It has this neat little light thingy in the lid and a mirror on the bottle. Just imagine yourself out on the town with the gals and you spot a cute boy at 2 o'clock. You can swipe a little gloss on your kisser (and check to see if you have anything gross in you teeth) and go flirt! Woot!
OH and I forgot the coolest thing of all, when ordering you can choose to customize the outside by having it monogrammed or adding a little bling. How awesome is that :)

Ok so I'll never be known for subtlety. I found these cute little cosmetics by e.l.f. at my local Target the other day and I thought I'd write a little blurb about them since they were a pretty good find for the price. Shown here are the Blush Set ( 4 blushes & a brush for just $5!) and the Brightening Eye Widener. Apparently you can purchase everything from this company for just $1! and no that's not a typo. Although I found their lip gloss to be a little too dark when you're looking for just a hint of color on your kisser and I highly recommend purchasing a concealer/foundation that is the next shade darker than what you would normally order, all in all the products are nice for the price. I love highly pigmented eyeshadow (you'll find that I will allude to my shadow addiction all throughout this blog) and I was not disappointed.
I have unfortunately heard a lot of negative reviews about ordering online from the store, but I have to say that I did not have a negative experience. I placed my order and about a week later I got my stuff. Is it the best make-up in the world?... it's alright, but it's fun and only $1 so really how can you go wrong?

Every time I hear the words "mineral makeup" I always have flashbacks of standing at the Bare Minerals counter with my friend Nita (who is from India and has the most lovely deep shade of skin that rerminds me of figs) while the counter girl fumbled around before handing her what they call their "tan" & "warm tan" collection and saying to her "here these colors are usually for Asian & Hispanic people but you could probably get close to your color with them" Where then Nita promptly replied "I am Asian, just not like, 'Jackie Chan' Asian" HA!
I was turned on to a little company called b.l.a.c. (Basic Luxuries for All Colors) minerals
So... it has taken me a long time to come around to the mineral makeup hype but b.l.a.c. minerals seems to have a more diverse color pallet for people who are more than just "ivory, light, medium, tan or dark". Upon my friend's urging, I ordered a sample kit. I was hoping this was going to be the one but sadly for me it failed. The coverage was nice and it really did match and blend very well, but I have very sensitive skin and after only about 30 minutes of wear my face broke out in an itchy rash and I immediately washed it off.. I don't know, I guess I'm going to have to go half and half with this one. I simply cannot wear it but my friend thinks it's great.
Sorry b.l.a.c. minerals, you get the pout :(

My neighbor stopped by last week while I was burning one of these puppies and she was like "Wow, I can't believe you cooked" ( grrrr! ) I wish my cooking smelled this yummy.
Surround yourself in the mouth watering scent of pink buttercream frosting with the Jaqua Pink Buttercream Frosting Luxury Candle. This soy candle is hand poured and will burn up to 30 hours
The down side is that it really does smell kind of sweet. I can only burn it for a little while and then I kind of have to blow it out and open the windows to dilute the scent a little. I don't care, still yummy :)

I found out about Sam Moon from a client at work. She had this awesome purse and I just had to know where she got it from. She told us about this place called Sam Moon and ever since them I have been hooked! If you love accessories then this is your place. I am usually known to be kind of a "label snob" but you can buy a crazy huge amount of stuff for very little money. If you need to get your shop on but don't have a lot of cash then shop Sam Moon . Woot!
It's the end of August and it's so-------o hot! This is my first post and I want to start this out with a FANTASTIC product.
Friday, I got my H2O+ Ice Water Cooling Mint Body Mud (yeah, I know it's a mouthful) in the mail and I thought I'd give it a try tonight after a long bad day at work with my urge to kill at it's highest threshold.
I have to say I really loved this product. The polishing grains made my skin feel nice and smooth and minty scent is invigorating yet quite soothing with a shot of menthol that is really like getting a splash of ice water. After my bath I felt refreshed and relaxed. Urge to kill lowering...lowering...gone! ;) Woot!
